Katherine Paterson is an award-winning singer/songwriter based in Dallas and Austin, TX. She writes indie-folk music to keep you company.
Winner of the 2025 Dallas Entertainment Award for Best Songwriter, and nominee of the 2026 DEA for Best Singer Songwriter Act, Dallas-based indie-folk singer/songwriter Paterson's "lyrics tear into your soul like a lion eating a steak" (Jessica Waffles, KXT). Having started writing songs as gifts, one of her first songs was written from the journal entries of a cross-country road trip with a friend. Out of this song grew a passion for writing songs for far-flung companions. This transformed into writing songs as companions for all kinds of life moments.
A homing beacon of sorts, Paterson’s music invites you to come find her among past selves, loved ones, grief, dreams, and plants. Her soul-bearing, anabolic storytelling has the power to bring people together and illuminate our shared DNA.
After moving to Dallas in 2020, Paterson began performing solo and with her bands Doggerland and very good friends. She has played internationally at Sofar Sounds shows, The Bitter End, The Bluebird Cafe, Deep Ellum Art Co., Johnny Brenda's, Mohawk Austin, Loop Wien, and more. Paterson's music has also been featured on KXT, KOOP, and various podcasts and blogs.
